Hello GTA Members,
I hope everyone has had a great Christmas and now we look forward to the new year.
The next formal newsletter will come out in late March, but there are some events that you might like to be aware of before then.
We have just completed the Youth Trapping Competition and I am awaiting an official report from Josh Hall and John Whaley. Josh says that there were 13 participants and it was a great event.
Sportsman’s Day at the Capitol will be on January 11, 2018. This gives people the opportunity to speak with legislators and express views about wildlife and outdoors issues. GTA has plans to have a representative there supporting trapping in GA.
The annual Adult Trapping Competition will be January 26, 27, & 28 at Thomas Farm near Americus, GA.
Mike Gibson (478-952-2105) has volunteered to organize this event. All GTA members are eligible to participate in this event. Please give Mike a call if you plan to participate so we can have an idea of how many trappers to prepare for. There is limited housing on the farm. Campers are welcome. Otherwise, there are several hotels in Americus. Drawing for trapping areas is early Friday morning. If you have any questions about competition rules, call Mike.
Thomas Farm is located between Americus and Andersonville National Historic Site. Turn off GA 49 on to GA 195. Go approximately 5 miles to Watermelon Rd (DIRT ROAD), turn left on Watermelon Rd and go approximately 5 miles to Thomas Farm. Stay straight on Watermelon Rd until you come to the farm house and sheds on the right and old grain bins on the left.
The weekend of February 2, 3, & 4 will find GTA with a booth at the Georgia Wildlife Federation Outdoors Show (Fisharama/Turkeyarama) at the Ag Center in Perry, GA. If you are in the area or have some time, stop by the booth and visit.
The Spring Fling will be on April 14 at Mike Wilson’s farm near Stapleton, GA. Bobby Gentry (NAFA Rep) will be there from 9 am until noon picking up stretched and dried fur. There will be trapping demos, lunch and the business meeting.
Hope to see you at some of these events.
All the best, Lewis Todd GTA Sec/Treasurer 478-232-1040
